A beautifully restored 18th Century stone farmhouse with swimming pool in South West Dordogne. Les Cèdres is situated among vineyards, fields and woods 7km from the 12th Century bastide town of Sainte Foy la Grande and 3km from the River Dordogne. The wooded garden of 4000m2 is surrounded by a high hedge so you are in a world of your own. In front there is a shaded terrace with lighting for dining after dark.

There is a fully equipped kitchen cum dining room with an open fireplace, a lounge, which has an oak beamed ceiling and stone walls and is comfortably furnished for reading and relaxing. There is a TV, satellite receiver, and a video player with a selection of English language videos and a radio with CD player with a selection of CD’s. Glazed doors open out to the swimming pool at the rear of the house.

There are three double bedrooms. One bedroom is in a small extension to the house and has its own entrance. It contains a double bed and built in wardrobe and it also has an en suite shower room with shower, toilet and wash basin. Two bedrooms are in the main part of the house, one having a double bed and the other has twin single beds. The twin bedded room also has its own washbasin. The bathroom containing a bath, separate shower, wash basin and bidet. There is a separate WC.

Aswell as the 10m x 5m swimming pool there is a small plastic paddling pool for families with small children. A paved area, ideal for sunbathing surrounds the pool equipped with sun beds and small tables. The pool area has lighting if you want to have a midnight swim. Being completely surrounded by a hedge and behind the house, the swimming pool affords total privacy for swimming and sunbathing.

COMMENTS FROM PREVIOUS GUESTS

We are over 700 miles from home but it could be a million. An idyllic retreat from the rat race.

“Les Cedres” is very special – a lovely house in an idyllic and extremely peaceful setting. Our best days were spent by the pool enjoying the utter silence.

What a magnificent location, a super kitchen and an excellent terrace for dining.

Local attractions:

The nearest shops are in two nearby villages under 5 minutes away by car where you will find a baker, grocer’s shop, a small bar and a petrol station. One of the villages is on the edge of the River Dordogne and has a stone landing jetty suitable for launching a small boat or canoe or for fishing.

The nearest town is Sainte Foy la Grande, 7 km away, less than 10 minutes by car which lies on the River Dordogne and is one of the fortified towns (called a Bastide) created during the 13th Century at the time of the English occupation. Here you will find some superb restaurants, a wide variety of shops, supermarkets, post office, doctors, pharmacy, garages, and a tourist office with very helpful staff. There is a market on a Saturday morning in the old mediaeval streets of the town. This market has been voted one of the best markets in France for its variety and freshness of produce.

There are several golf courses in the area as well as, tennis courts, ten pin bowling, discotheques, pony trekking, canoeing on the Dordogne and Vézère Rivers, potholing, fishing and there are some fine walks and cycle rides through varied countryside. There are also many opportunities for those interested in cultural activities such as music recitals and art exhibitions, and we leave information in the house giving details of when and where these take place.
